The car brand currently only has two passenger EVs in its lineup – Nexon EV and Tigor EV – both of which are based on the brand’s existing ICE models. Reportedly, both Nexon EV and Tigor EV currently account for around 20 per cent of the overall sales of their respective model ranges (ICE + EV). The manufacturer anticipates EVs to contribute to over 20 per cent of its total PV sales by 2027-2028. In the first quarter of CY2022, EVs have accounted for 8 per cent of Tata’s total passenger car sales. Tata Motors plans to have 10 electric cars in its lineup by 2025. It revealed two concept EVs earlier this year – Curvv EV and Avinya – which were based on the brand’s generation-2 and generation-3 platforms, respectively. Tata Avinya which will be a bespoke EV, is expected to enter production by 2025.

Tata Motors is also planning to take its EV vertical global. The Avinya concept is being planned to be introduced in “mature markets” like Europe and the US. Shailesh Chandra – MD, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) – believes that “in electrification everyone is on the same page, or similar state of maturity. It’s not a gap of decades unlike in the ICE world”.

“We have overcome the hesitations of history and will not allow anyone a veto on our choices,” he said. India has been engaged with China for the past two years over border row in Eastern Ladakh.

Speaking about how self-reliance adds to making a stronger India, Jaishankar said that in the past, globalisation lead to “lowered defences”. “In the past, mantras of globalisation lowered its defences and discouraged building of deeper strengths. That realisation is responsible for the commitment we now see to Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.

Jaishankar said that India shares the international community’s disappointment with the United Nations. “While our endeavours will always remain supportive, we also share the disappointment of the international community of the UN’s declining effectiveness,” he said.

“Narendra Modi would lay the foundation stone for the Rs 15,000 crore Bengaluru Suburban Rail project on June 20. It is a major step in realising the long pending dream of Bengalureans,” said Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Monday.

The project envisions to connect Bengaluru with its suburbs through a rail-based rapid-transit system that has been a dream of the state governments since 1983. The highly awaited project is anticipated to be completed by 2026 at an estimated cost of Rs 15,767 crore, and has often been dubbed “India’s most integrated rail project”.

The Rail Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka, (K-RIDE) a joint venture of the government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Railways has the responsibility of conceptualising and implementing the rail project.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) project was proposed first by an expert team from the then Southern Railway in 1983 and was estimated to be run across 58 km. The proposal was submitted as part of Karnataka’s first Transportation Survey commissioned by the then chief minister R Gundu Rao.

It had started offering the benefit under Airtel Thanks back in 2021. It was just a one-month trial that users got when they recharged with an Airtel prepaid plan. But that benefit has now been removed for the users. Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition allows users to stream content through smartphone only. It was a fair benefit, and since it was a trial, it didn’t come again and again for the users.

As mentioned, the benefit has been removed from multiple prepaid plans, but not all plans.

There are only two Airtel prepaid plans that offer Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition to the users now. These plans are priced at Rs 359 and Rs 108. The Rs 359 voucher is a regular prepaid plan, while the Rs 108 voucher is a 4G data-only plan.

Both the plans offer Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition directly to the users under Airtel Thanks. This time there’s no trial but the complete benefit. With the Rs 359 prepaid plan, users will get Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition for 28 days, while the Rs 108 plan offers it for 30 days.

Hong Kong’s broader Hang Seng index closed 2.71% higher at 21,653.90.

Shares of Chinese tech firms in Hong Kong surged following a Wall Street Journal report that regulators in China are concluding probes on ride-hailing firm Didi and two other U.S.-listed tech companies. Regulators are now planning to lift a ban on the firms, adding new users on their platforms, and permitting their apps back on domestic app stores, said the report.

Shares of Alibaba in Hong Kong gained 5.04% while Meituan jumped 9.93% and Baidu climbed 5.18%. The Hang Seng Tech index gained 4.64% to 4,601.95.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite closed 1.28% higher at 3,236.37 while the Shenzhen Component surged 2.664% to 11,938.12.

China’s Caixin Services Purchasing Managers’ Index released Monday came in at 41.4, finer than April’s reading of 36.2 but still in contraction territory.

The release comes on the back of last week’s official non-manufacturing PMI print of 47.8 for May, an enhancement over April’s reading of 41.9 but still below the 50 mark that differenciates expansion from contraction.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index gained 0.9 percent after losing nearly 1% the previous week due to concerns about economic growth amid rising prices and bets on major central banks tightening monetary policy.

“Chinese economic markets are assuming that we’re going to see a significant improvement in economic data over the course of the next two or three months,” said Michael Hewson, chief markets analyst at CMC Markets. “We’re seeing a modest rebound in Europe… markets are trading in a little bit of a holding pattern ahead of some key central bank announcements and data releases.”

Banks, which typically appreciate in a high interest rate environment, rose 1.7%. Miners climbed 2.5% and luxury stocks also rallied as sentiment in the sectors, which derive substantial demand from China, was elevated by authorities easing more curbs in Beijing and Shanghai.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face a confidence vote later on Monday, the chairman of the 1922 Committee Graham Brady has told the lawmakers, post the documentation of a report which alcohol-fuelled parties when Britain was under strict COVID lockdowns.
