Bangalore-based Citrus Freight, founded in 2021 by Biplob Barik and Ricky Goyal, is working on addressing inefficiencies in India’s agricultural export logistics. The company provides a reefer container shipping platform, helping exporters streamline cold chain logistics for fresh produce exports.
India, despite being a leading producer of agricultural goods, accounts for just 2% of the global export market. The challenges include high spoilage rates, fragmented logistics, and complex documentation processes. Citrus Freight focuses on addressing these issues by offering AI-powered price discovery, real-time temperature monitoring, and vessel scheduling tools.
The company claims its AI-driven booking system allows exporters to determine landed costs and secure shipments within seconds, a process that earlier took up to 72 hours. Real-time monitoring has reportedly reduced spoilage rates to below 5%, while proprietary algorithms assist in selecting optimal vessels for exports.
Backed by Caret Capital and Intercont Freight Liners, Citrus Freight has facilitated exports for 25,000 SMEs. The company operates in the export-quality produce segment, distinguishing itself from logistics providers like Snowman and Celsius, which primarily serve domestic retail markets.
Citrus Freight continues to expand operations, aiming to improve efficiency in cold chain logistics and increase the presence of Indian fresh produce in international markets.
