Delta Air Lines has followed in the footsteps of Southwest Airlines by imposing restrictions on the use of TikTok for its employees. The move comes after a US Government ban prohibiting the app’s presence on IT networks used by federal contractors.

Delta will prohibit the use of TikTok on personal devices connected to its internal network systems, potentially extending to apps, email, and flight booking systems.

This ban could effectively prevent employees from using TikTok on their personal devices altogether if it is used for work-related purposes. Notably, Delta Air Lines currently has an official TikTok account with a substantial following.

The decision reflects the airlines’ commitment to compliance and cybersecurity, as they navigate evolving technology and regulatory landscapes while prioritizing the safeguarding of their employees and data.

“As a federal contractor we are required to adhere to this guidance and accordingly, TikTok will be inaccessible via the Southwest network beginning June 28, 2023.

“As the technology and regulatory landscape evolves, we will continue to evaluate our policies and procedures to uphold Southwest’s ongoing commitment to compliance and cybersecurity, safeguarding both our People and data.”
