TOLO News is an Afghan news channel broadcasting from Kabul. The refugees said Turkish border forces have been beating and even shooting at Afghan refugees.

An Afghan refugee who returned from Turkey, Rahmatullah, said, “They detained us and beat us from dusk to dawn. I don’t think anyone would do such beating, neither a pagan nor a Muslim.” An Afghan refugee in Turkey, Noor Ahmad Hafizi, said, “We leave Afghanistan to find work. We go through thousands of problems but the Afghan refugees mean nothing to the Turkish government.” “The detention of refugees who lack documents has been continuing in all cities of the country. We call on the UN and Turkish government to stop this operation,” said Firoz Aydin, another Afghan refugee, as per TOLO News. TOLO News also interviewed a family whose son disappeared.

A resident of Parwan, Aziza a widowed mother of five children, said that she sent her son to Iran and from there he went to Turkey. She further said that on the way to Turkey, her son Noorzai disappeared. Aziza said it has been six months and there have been no details about Noorzai’s whereabouts. “My son was in Iran for about six months. After six months, he travelled to Turkey with his friends. I also talked with him when he was on the border of Turkey. But since then, there has been no information about the life and death of my son,” Aziza told TOLO News.

Noorzai’s brother said, “He has gone missing on the border between Iran-Turkey. We call on the government to help us.” The Taliban has meanwhile urged the refugee host countries to not mistreat Afghan refugees. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said, “We want (them) to treat the refugees with human and Islamic manners. Particularly the Islamic countries, who are our brothers. The Afghans, who are there, are their brothers so they should not be facing harsh treatment and beating.”

As a result of the clashes in Lebanon’s largest Palestinian refugee camp near the southern port city of Sidon, seven people were injured as well. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), two children were among the injured, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency. A mortar round that struck a military barracks outside of the camp, according to a statement from the Lebanese army, wounded one soldier, whose condition is stable, Al Jazeera reported.

Meanwhile, the killing of commander Ashraf al-Armouchi and four of his “comrades” during a “heinous operation” was confirmed by the Palestinian party Fatah in a statement on Sunday. On Sunday, as ambulances raced through the camp’s winding streets to transport the injured to the hospital, factions engaged in combat while brandishing assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and hand grenades. Morning violence ceased for many hours, however, state media reported that sniper fire continued to sporadically erupt. But following the killing of the Palestinian general and his escorts, violence broke out once more. As stray bullets hit nearby buildings in Sidon, shattering windows and businesses, some inhabitants fled their houses, according to Al Jazeera.

Both the staff and patients of the public Sidon General Hospital were evacuated. More than 450 000 Palestinians living in Lebanon are registered with UNRWA, according to Al Jazeera. The majority endure a range of legal limitations, including employment restrictions, and frequently live in appalling conditions in refugee camps.

Lebanese PM speaks, calls clashes unacceptable

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called on Palestinian leaders to help restore security in the Ain Al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon after armed clashes broke out there.

“We call on Palestinian leaders to hand over those who tamper with security to the Lebanese authorities; this is the natural way to restore security and stability inside and around the camp as in other Palestinian camps in Lebanon,” a statement by the Council of Ministers quoted Mikati as saying on Sunday. The Lebanese Prime Minister also called on Palestinian leaders to respect Lebanese sovereignty, relevant laws and the principles of hospitality, Xinhua news agency reported. Armed clashes broke out in the Ain Al-Helweh camp between members of the Fatah Movement and Islamist militants since early Sunday morning, killing at least five people, including Abou Ashraf al-Armoushi, a military officer affiliated with the Fatah Movement, and injuring six others.

The Prime Minister also said that the armed clashes in a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon are unacceptable as they violate the country’s sovereignty. Armed clashes between members of the Palestinian Fatah Movement and Islamist militants in the Ain Al-Helweh camp intensified on Monday, with the death toll increasing to 11 and injuries to 37, Xinhua news agency reported.
