Leading UPS Manufacturer Numeric has embarked on a sapling plantation drive on the eve of Environment Day to create ‘Numeric Forest’ near Perungudi railway station. Satpal Singh, CEO, Numeric, kickstarted the drive by planting the first sapling.

Employees of Numeric and their families also joined hands to enhance the green cover in the city. The drive followed an intense plantation methodology with the different varieties of native sapling species placed one foot apart. The saplings will be maintained by Green Velachery.

Satpal Singh, CEO, Numeric, said, “At Numeric, we remain committed to creating a sustainable future for our community. We have always strived to incorporate ecologically sound management into our industrial sites, offer our customers sustainable solutions and reduce the environmental impact of products over the entire product life cycle. Our new initiative, the Numeric Forest, is a step towards creating a greener future.”

He further added “As a group, sustainability is at the core of what we do. As per our 2021 CSR report, we have avoided 13 million tonnes of CO2 since 2014, through our energy efficient solutions. We have set a target to avoid 12 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2024. We are working towards achieving carbon neutrality throughout the Group value chain, by 2050”

As per the 2021 Forest survey report, the tree cover in the city has increased by nearly 1200 acres over the past decade. But we still have a long way to go to meet the global standards and plantation initiatives like this will add to the need to create a greener tomorrow.

The plantation drive is supported by Chennai Corporation, Southern Railways and Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery.
