Indian equity markets ended Saturday’s session in positive territory, with the Sensex climbing 231.99 points, or 0.31%, to close at 75,415.35 and the Nifty 50 advancing 64.60 points, or 0.27%, to settle at 23,719.30. The Sensex swung across a wide range during the day, touching a low of 75,230.75 and a high of 75,810.97, before settling closer to the lower half of that band. The Nifty’s intraday range ran from 23,671.00 to 23,835.65.
Among the sectoral indices, Bank Nifty was the standout performer of the session, surging 615.95 points, or 1.15%, to close at 54,055.35. The banking index touched an intraday peak of 54,213.05 after opening from a low of 53,483.55, demonstrating the sharpest upward move among all tracked sectors on the day. Nifty Metal also ended in the green, adding 58.10 points, or 0.44%, to finish at 13,271.60. Nifty Auto edged higher by 30.85 points, or 0.12%, settling at 26,017.10.
On the losing side, Nifty Pharma bore the brunt of selling pressure, declining 316.95 points, or 1.27%, to close at 24,573.95 — the steepest sectoral fall of the session. The pharma index touched a high of 24,979.10 before retreating sharply to finish near its day’s low of 24,519.75. Nifty IT also ended in the red, shedding 108.65 points, or 0.37%, to close at 28,912.45, weighed down despite Wipro’s individual gains. Nifty Realty was marginally lower by 0.70 points, or 0.09%, ending at 774.40.
Axis Bank was the session’s biggest individual gainer among the top Nifty constituents, rising 2.56% to ₹1,285.40. ICICI Bank followed with a gain of 1.73% to close at ₹1,264.30, contributing meaningfully to Bank Nifty’s outperformance. Wipro added 1.69% to settle at ₹203.11, while Asian Paints gained 1.58% to ₹2,639.80 and Hindustan Unilever rose 1.13% to ₹2,203.60.
Sun Pharma was the session’s most notable decliner, falling 2.47% to ₹1,844.60 and dragging the Nifty Pharma index lower. ITC dropped 2.06% to ₹301.70, while ONGC shed 1.98% to close at ₹290.00. Among IT heavyweights, Infosys slipped 0.57% to ₹1,174.50 and TCS declined 0.43% to ₹2,317.30, though these modest losses were insufficient to fully offset Wipro’s advance within the sector.
On balance, the majority of sectoral indices closed in positive territory on Saturday — Bank Nifty, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Auto all ended higher, while Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, and Nifty Realty recorded losses. The broader headline indices reflected this mixed-but-positive tilt, with banking strength providing the session’s clearest direction.
