Zeiss Group to invest Rs 2,500 crore in new optical lens manufacturing plant in India

Global optical lenses major, Zeiss Group, is set to invest approximately Rs 2,500 crore in India to establish a new manufacturing plant in Karnataka. The plant’s primary focus will be to increase the production capacity of spectacle glasses. Carl Zeiss India, the company’s Indian arm, anticipates employing around 5,000 people when the plant becomes fully operational.
The new facility, which spans 34 acres near Bengaluru airport, aims to become Zeiss’s largest spectacle lens manufacturing factory globally. Construction work is expected to start soon, with manufacturing projected to begin by October 2024. Zeiss India targets achieving a turnover of Rs 5,000 crore by 2027.
The company is a major player in vision care, exporting 75% of its products worldwide.
