Against the largely negative trend, two sectoral indices bucked the direction. Nifty Metal was the standout performer of the day, rising 146.90 points, or 1.10%, to close at 13,492.55 — reaching a session high of 13,516.35. Nifty Auto also registered a modest gain, advancing 17.45 points, or 0.07%, to settle at 26,480.50.
Among individual stocks, ONGC was the top gainer on the Nifty 50, closing at ₹287.50, up 0.89%. Hindustan Unilever followed, finishing at ₹2,209.40, a gain of 0.59%. Maruti Suzuki added 0.29% to close at ₹13,208.00, while Tata Steel edged up 0.12% to ₹210.47. Larsen and Toubro rounded out the top five gainers, closing at ₹4,037.80, up 0.11%.
On the losing side, Wipro was the session’s biggest decliner, falling 1.50% to close at ₹203.73. TCS dropped 1.39% to ₹2,276.20, with both IT majors weighing on an otherwise flat Nifty IT index. Titan fell 1.28% to ₹4,105.90, Bajaj Finance slipped 1.24% to ₹930.20, and Kotak Mahindra Bank declined 1.07% to close at ₹388.65.
Overall, six of the eight sectoral indices tracked on the day closed in negative territory, with only Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto posting gains, underscoring the predominantly weak tone across Dalal Street on Tuesday.
