WTI crude slides 2.03% to $91.98 at open on Wednesday, May 27

Commodity markets opened on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, with crude oil leading losses as WTI fell 2.03% to $91.98, while silver and copper edged higher.

Crude oil registered the sharpest move at the opening bell on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, with West Texas Intermediate falling $1.91 or 2.03% to $91.98 per barrel. Brent crude tracked lower as well, shedding $1.60 or 1.66% to trade at $95.07 per barrel, making energy the most pronounced drag across commodity markets at the open.

Gold slipped marginally, declining $2.60 or 0.06% to $4,499.70 per troy ounce in international markets. Translated to Indian exchanges, this price implies an approximate MCX rate of around ₹1,20,098 per 10 grammes, based on a rupee conversion of 83 per dollar. The move in gold was modest, with the metal holding broadly steady near its opening level.

Silver offered a contrasting picture, rising $0.38 or 0.49% to $76.98 per troy ounce. On an MCX approximate basis, this translates to roughly ₹2,05,285 per kilogramme. The white metal’s gain placed it among the firmest performers at the open alongside base metals.

Natural gas eased slightly, edging down $0.01 or 0.40% to $3.00 per million British thermal units. The decline was negligible in absolute terms, though the contract did close below the psychologically significant $3.00 handle at the point of this data capture.

Copper moved in the opposite direction to crude and natural gas, adding $0.04 or 0.66% to $6.44 per pound. The gain made copper one of two metals — alongside silver — to post advances at the opening session.

Agricultural commodities also faced mild pressure. Wheat fell 2.25 cents or 0.35% to 633.25 US cents per bushel, while corn dipped 0.75 cents or 0.16% to 456.75 US cents per bushel. Both grains registered small but consistent declines at the open.

Across the commodity complex on Wednesday morning, the mood was broadly softer, with crude oil, natural gas, gold, wheat, and corn all in the red. Silver and copper were the exceptions, both posting early gains and lending a note of divergence to an otherwise subdued start to the session.
